Do you have wooden furniture at home and do not know how what is the best way to care for it? We bring you some simple tips and cleaning products for its easy cleaning and maintenance. First of all, we have to distinguish between coated and oiled surfaces.
Coated furniture can be easily cleaned with a damp cloth, in the case of grease, you can easily clean it by adding a suitable degreasing agent to water. Resistance to mechanical damage is high. However, this does not mean that the lacquered surface cannot be damaged. Do not let spilled liquids dry on the surface, but wipe them dry with a cotton cloth. Never use products with abrasive effects, such as sand or steel wool, on coated furniture. You could irreversibly damage the finish. We also do not recommend using different polishes. Oiled surfaces bring a closer feeling of natural wood than coated surfaces. But they need a more responsible approach and more frequent maintenance. The reward for more demanding maintenance is easy repairability in case of major damage.
When cleaning oiled furniture, you should avoid washing with a damp cloth. When water is used, the oil is washed off the surface of the furniture. It then quickly loses its resistance and turns grey. Wipe the dusty surface dry only. For cleaning, you can use a suitable agent designed for oiled surfaces. From our offer, we offer the OL 1 cleaning and protective spray for this purpose of use. It is not necessary to use this spray every day, but really if you find dried dirt on the table or minor damage, for example from water.
Once every one to two months, it is advisable to treat the oiled surface with a preservation spray containing wax. The surface thus gains greater resistance and retains its original colour. Always use the OL 2 wax spray after cleaning the surface with a cleaning spray.
Due to the effect of light and the use of oiled furniture, even with proper cleaning, the oil on its surface decreases. For this reason, it is advisable to re-oil the furniture once a year. The first re-oiling of new furniture is recommended after six months of use. Adding another layer of oil will restore the wood to its original appearance and durability.
